The first UMAP research-Net workshop: implementing strategies for establishing long-lasting research partnership in the Lower Mekong River Basin

Workshop dates: 26-28 October, 2009

SC-2 401/2, Walai Rhukhavej Botanical Research Institute, 4th floor, Faculty of Science building, Khamrieng Campus, Mahasarakham University

Workshop schedule:
The workshop will commence on 26 October with a round-table discussion with particular focus on implementation strategies of UMAP research-Net project being coordinated by Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute, Mahasarakham University. On 27 Oct, we may arrange a field trip to Nong Kai province to observe some wetland ecosystems within our research area of interest and one of our research stations within Maha Sarakham province. Details of the field trip will be discussed on the first day of the meeting. We will spend the last day of the workshop (i.e., 28 Oct) back in the meeting room to finalize the implementing activities and plan for the next meeting. In the evening, participating researchers may leave for Bangkok. See the meeting schedule details attached.

Travel instruction
For those who are coming from oversea, please proceed with your travel arrangements, such as flight reservation.

We request all participating researchers to arrive in Maha Sarakham on 26 October (Monday) in the morning. We recommend you catch a night bus on 25 October from Mo Chit Northern and Northeastern Bus terminal in Bangkok (near Chattuchak weekend market). Bus ticket (VIP-30) can be bought at the counter no. 3 (Rungprasert Company). Our staff should be able to pick you up at the Maha Sarakham Bus terminal if you notify us your arrival time at Maha Sarakham city. Please note that the travel time from Bangkok to Maha Sarakham is roughly 6 hours. Your bus may stop at Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) mid-way to Maha Sarakahm for about 15 minutes for refreshment.
In case you intend to arrive in here earlier, please let's know. We have arranged accommodation for all of you at the university condominium, some 500 m from our office. There, our staff will help you secure your room upon arrival.

Reimbursement

(1) For those coming from Indonesia and Malaysia, round-trip air tickets in economy class on budget Airlines (i.e., AirAsia) will be reimbursed. Due to a very limited budget, we kindly request them to share other surface expenses, such as taxi fare from Suvarnnabhumi International Airport to Mo Chit bus terminal and local travel expenses from Bangkok to Maha Sarakham city.

(2) For those coming from Vietnam and/or Bangkok by land, we will reimburse all travel expenses including bus fair between Hue and Bangkok and Bangkok and Maha Sarakham.

(3) Accommodation, food and expenses related to the field trip during the UMAP meeting at Mahasarakham University (26-28 Oct) will be covered by the UMAP research grant.

(4) Expenses in Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand, including accommodation and food will not be reimbursed.
