Southeast Asia, highly diversified in terms of socio-ecosystems and biodiversity, is undergoing dramatic environmental and social changes affecting biodiversity and living resources. Climate in SEA is predicted to become dryer and to have a higher probability of extreme events. These extreme events associated with climatic variability such as El Niño have been increasingly reported since the eighties in the region. Forest cover is still declining in SEA with 0.91% of forest cover lost every year and agricultural extension seems to be the major cause of deforestation of the mountainous regions of mainland and insular Southeast Asia. Although SEA is recognized as a hotspot for biodiversity, it suffers from a rapid and extensive erosion of biodiversity, which urges at identifying the consequences of biodiversity decline in terms of ecosystems functions and services.
The objectives of the international workshop are to provide overviews and challenges for generic and applied researches in living resource management, conservation ecology, health ecology and planning. The international workshop is dedicated to lecturers, students and academic staff of the SEA countries; however, scholars, NGOs staff and stakeholders are also welcome.
Results of the international workshop will be published and will incorporate concept and review papers produced by the participants.
